Golden Hour at Our Finca

There is a side of Gran Canaria that many travelers never see. Beyond the bustling beaches lies a rugged, soulful interior where life slows down to the rhythm of the land. For us, that place is our farm in Moya, nestled near the quiet village of Fontanales.

Recently, the light was so magical that we had to grab the camera. We wanted to share a glimpse of what “home” looks like when the sun starts to dip behind the peaks.

Standing on the terrace of our finca, the air feels different—crisp, scented with wild herbs, and remarkably quiet. Our corner of the island, near Fontanales, is known for its lush landscapes and “eternal spring” feel. But during the golden hour, the deep greens of the valley transform into layers of gold and amber.

From our altitude, we often witness the Mar de Nubes (Sea of Clouds) rolling in below us, making the farm feel like an island floating in the sky. On clear evenings, the silhouette of the neighboring islands appears on the horizon, glowing in the hazy twilight.

A Simple Kind of Luxury

What makes these sunsets so special isn’t just the view; it’s the atmosphere. It’s the sound of a distant goat bell from a neighbor’s flock, the rustic charm of our stone walls, and the feeling of being completely disconnected from the rush of the world.

If you ever explore the “Miniature Continent” that is Gran Canaria, do yourself a favor: head north. Drive up the winding roads to Moya, breathe in the mountain air, and wait for the sun to drop. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful moments are the ones right in your own backyard.
